Deke's Collection: Fast Action Story Books
Cartoon Story/Fast-Action Story, Dell Publishing, 1936-43

"In 1936, Whitman entered an agreement with Dell to publish four 240-page hardcover books utilizing the same characters and creators as their Big Little Books. Dubbed Cartoon Story books, they sold for 15 cents and shared the same number designation, 6833. The four books, featuring Dick Tracy, Flash Gordon, G-Man, and Tom Mix, were as tall as Whitman's movie scene books but not as wide. Around the time that Whitman shifted to the Better Little Books name in 1938, Dell reissued the four titles in softcover with the same copyright name, a reduced cover price of 10 cents, and a new name: Fast-Action Story books. Dell continued to release new Fast-Action Story titles in numbered sets. By 1943, when the series ended, they had published 36 titles in eight sets."
